No Southerners, no evangelicals: new vistas for election 2012

Mitt’s Romney’s announcement of Paul Ryan as his vice-presidential running mate creates an interesting new domain for conservative evangelicals–namely, they have no representative. Of the four candidates on the next election slate for president 2 are Roman Catholic, 1 is a liberal (progressive) mainline Protestant, and one is a Mormon. Between the executive branch and the judicial branch of the US government there are NO evangelicals, no not even one.

Is the era of the “Religious Right,” evangelical  political influence is over?

    Test.

People these days identify themselves more by their political affiliation than their religion. Being Catholic, Mormon, evangelical, mainline, etc. has been diluted in meaning and has taken on more of a secondary form of identification. It’s become more of an added on cultural marker rather than a primary source of identification.

This is in addition to the Supreme Court having only Jewish and Catholic members. Most fascinating observation…

  4. Has Mitt converted?
